Seychelles Helicopter Tour of Aride Island
Be amazed of one of the world’s most important Nature Reserves – the Aride Island in the Seychelles. Discover it by this Seychelles Helicopter Tour of Aride Island.
Aride Island is the northernmost granitic island in the Seychelles, located 10 kilometers north of Praslin island and the whole area covers 68 hectares. The only human inhabitants are the reserve’s staff of the Island Conservation Society of Seychelles who leased and managed this nature reserve. They live in the main village called La Cour, on the south side of the island. Being an island with a small population, there are no government buildings or services. For many services, people have to go to neighboring island of Praslin.
Today, the island of Aride is dedicated to conservation supported by ecotourism. It is the home to ten species of the one million breeding seabirds. It also has endemic birds such as Magpie Robins, Fodies, Brush Warblers and Blue Pigeons. Endemic Plants like wrights Gardenia and Turtle beaches and rich marine life also exist here.
There is only one beach which faces south. This makes access from June to September difficult when the southeast trade winds are at their height. There is no overnight accommodation other than for the resident staff of the island. No vessels other than those of the reserve are allowed to land on Aride Island. As such visitors will have to disembark from their vessel and board the islands’ boat for transfer onto the island.
On the island, the only way of getting around is by foot. So with this helicopter tour of Aride Island you can enjoy a three hour walk with a private ranger. You will get to explore the fauna and flora and see birds like you’ve never seen before. A true heaven for nature lovers!
